Swahili: Kungumanga The trees that produce our nutmegs grow in spice gardens at higher altitudes on the islands. This gives them a strong flavour. We pack the nutmegs whilst they are still partially wrapped in their mace. These nuts must be cracked open before use; the inner kernel is the nutmeg.
